Applegreen shortlisted for European Star of 2016 Award

Applegreen plc, the #1 motorway service area operator in the Republic of Ireland, with a significant and growing presence as a petrol forecourt retailer in the UK, is shortlisted for the “Star of 2016” European Small and Mid-Cap Awards. Applegreen listed on the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) in June 2015 and raised €70m on its initial public offering (IPO).

Applegreen among three European companies shortlisted

The Star of 2016 Award, open to newly listed mid-cap companies across Europe, is for an exceptional performer in its sector and a responsible corporate citizen. Applegreen is one of three companies shortlisted for the Star of 2016 Award by the independent jury set up by the European Commission.

Independent judging panel to decide on winner

In deciding the winner of the Star of 2016 the judging panel considers a number of criteria including that the company should:

  • be an exceptional leader
  • stand out from the crowd in a broad range of areas
  • have clear growth potential
  • be well-managed and have made good use of the proceeds of flotation.

The winner of the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards will be announced in Brussels on 17 November.

About The European Small and Mid-Cap Awards

The European Small and Mid-Cap Awards aim to promote best practices and encourage more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access capital markets via IPOs. The Awards are a joint initiative of the European Commission, leading European securities exchanges and EuropeanIssuers.

There are four categories in 2016 – International Star, Rising Star, Star of Innovation and Star of 2016 with three companies shortlisted in each category. The shortlist includes listed companies from across Europe in a variety of sectors.
